Used Wheel Chairs
Shopping for used wheel chairs can be the best option to save money either for a temporary
situation or for a long-term need. But be careful before you buy.
Used Wheel Chairs
When you or a loved one finds the need for a wheel chair, looking at used wheel
chairs could be a viable option. This is especially true if you are only going to need to use it for a limited
amount of time. What you need to do is sit back and determine what your exact needs and mobility requirements when
looking to get a used wheel chair.
Manual used wheel chairs can sometimes offer an advantage of being collapsible and
therefore easier to transport. Manual used wheel chairs are either powered by the person in the chair or from
someone behind them. Another obvious advantage is in the cost of manual used wheel chairs. Used manual wheel chairs
start at about $100 and can be as much as $700. The cost is obviously dependent on the features the manual wheel
chair has to offer, any accessories you can add, and the durability of the chair.
The disadvantages of manual used wheel chairs is that they are very difficult, if
not impossible to use if the person in the chair has limited upper body strength, or the person who would be
pushing them is not strong enough. Another disadvantage is that manual wheel chairs are often not as maneuverable
as eclectic wheel chairs. This is especially a factor when trying to use a wheel chair in a private
home.
The advantages of electric used wheel chairs are that they are much easier to
maneuver whether you are inside or out. This is especially true when trying to get through narrow doorways. They
are powered by a battery that is easily rechargeable in your home or garage. And since they are maneuvered by using
a joy stick, they are a boon for people with limited upper body mobility. Used electric wheel chairs come with many
options of accessories that can be purchased to make carrying and storing things much more
convenient.
The disadvantage of used electric wheel chairs is the price. While some start as low
as $1300, some can be as pricey as $6000. This is all dependant on your personal and health needs, along with the
sturdiness you are looking for.
When looking for a used wheel chair, regardless of whether it is a manual chair, or
electric, be sure to inquire about any warranties that come with the wheel chair. And if you will only need the
used wheel chair for a few months, ask if they have a buy-back policy. These policies tend to be quite strict, but
it is always still a good idea to find out if you have any options
